After a few days in Dallas we drove 14 hours to Winter Park Colorado! I love Colorado and skiing here is awesome but this sport has become so expensive! The manager of the ski rental place on the grounds said it was the busiest she had seen in the 15 years of working here.
I will say, we found the prime parking spot if you are okay with paying $. It’s $35 for the day but so close and when you are hauling all of your equipment and it’s freezing then totally worth it! If you are coming from the town of winter park take the second right into the winter park ski village, follow the path down towards the base of the village and there are three levels to park in, easy to pay with a QR code on the wall. They also have wagons to help you haul your items even closer to the mountain 😍.
Overall the mountain is great and love the trails to ski on. The kids went to snowboarding school for two half days and loved it. They were snowboarding on their own after their lessons! The town is so cute and trendy with lots of restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and little shops for souvenirs!
Recommendations for food:
Smokehouse barbecue- amazing bbq and a must try. Only downfall as an okie I love okra and they don’t have it. Mac and cheese is a 10, ribs fall off the bone and turkey was so good with the sweet bbq sauce
Colorado adventure park is the best place to do snow tubing hands down! I have done this two years in a row. Buy tickets a week in advance during peak season.
Moon frog coffee- great local coffee shop. Definitely stop here for a drink, my daughter loved the honey chai latte!
Elevation-friends had this pizza before we arrived and thought it was amazing. Great value for size of pizza. 8/10 rating
Hernandez pizza pub-they do a rolled up crust with marinara inside that was delicious! Garlic cheese bread was a 4/10 but great marinara sauce to dip it in. Overall for Hernandez we give it a 5/10, the wait was 2.5 hours long for takeout which didn’t help.
Sushi Nama- we give this a 5/10, the wait wasn’t that long but they charged a 15% takeout fee. We ordered chicken teriyaki, vampire roll, miso soup, chicken pad thai at a level one was too spicy and couldn’t eat it.
Charlie’s frozen treats- gelato was pretty good on top of brownies 😍 vanilla and chocolate to top off the evening!
Derailed bar- base of the mountain. Food was 8/10, great for kids and adults. Fried pickles burgers, chicken quesadillas and bacon apple flatbread were amazing. We ate here both days for lunch!
Monarch lake chocolate and coffee-best hot chocolate but very bougie! My daughter had a hot cocoa with two melted chocolate bars which was inspired by the owners visit to Italy, very delicious! My son got the more traditional hot chocolate but probably not a place for young kids and more of an adult hot chocolate cafe. $$$
Wake n’ bacon-great spot for breakfast or brunch!
Durbar Nepalese and Indian bistro-we gave this a 10/10. Hands down best Indian food and service. We ordered all of the 5 below and everyone sampled them. We ranked them in order of our favorites. We also ordered a few different naans to try..garlic, plain and garlic cheese. I would stick with the garlic and plain naan, they were the best!
- Butter chicken
- Chicken kabob
- Tandoori chicken
- Coconut chicken curry
- Lamb Rogan josh
Lots of good info for people going skiing!
