Helsinki, Finland

I am happy to report that I finally made it to Helsinki! My flight in North Carolina was delayed two hours which meant I had about 7 minutes once we landed to make my connecting flight….I sprinted the whole way and made it. I just about croaked after I scanned my ticket and showed my passport.

I got crazy lucky and it was a very empty flight so I had 4 seats to stretch out on with 4 pillows and blankets 😍. Once I landed I navigated my way through the railway transit system to get to Helsinki city center which took about 30 min and $4.75 which is way cheaper than a taxi and highly recommend for the experience and views. Then walked from the city center about 20 minutes to my hotel in the ice with luggage, which was a bit of a challenge but everyone was doing it!

Then I figured I would high tail it around town center to see what I could find. A couple of things I learned:

1. A lot of restaurants are closed on Sundays so plan accordingly.

2. If you want to visit churches on Sundays you can visit a service and most aren’t available for tourists due to services being held.

3. Pack your gloves, hat, scarf and waterproof boots to wear once you get off the plane in your carry on or wear them.

4. Take a backup battery pack for your phone. Cell phones don’t really hold their charge plus you will use your map wherever you walk.

5. When taking the railway if going to city center take C platform right side when you walk down and take it all the way to the end to A. You can’t go any further. I had to ask someone so don’t be afraid people are very helpful.

    1. I have seen several in Europe on bridges and the movies! It’s supposed to be where lovers can attach a padlock with their names and a special date onto a bridge. It’s supposed to represent a sign of their love and commitment to each other. ❤️ Get Robert to a bridge! 😂

      1. Padlocks are all over the Skydance Bridge in Oklahoma City. Now I know what they mean. Thanks Danielle…

Can’t wait to see more of your adventures and pictures. Frances

    1. Santa told me today he thinks I’m a nice person by the looks of me…then said 6 out of 7 days 🤣
It must have been the one day they wouldn’t let me in!
